“Hi Mom!”  Meet Our Virtual Attendant

We spent an enormous amount of research in studying and designingthe human interface for our activation unit. Studies such as the one published by Bryan Reeves of the Center for the Study of Language and Information at Stanford University confirmed for us what we already intuitively knew: That in comparison to an ATM style interface; an interactive human character interface is proven to:

  1. Be more Persuasive (increase up sell, cross sell & conversion rates)
  2. Be more Arousing (and thus ‘awakens’ and motivates users)
  3. Increases Greater Trust
  4. Be  more Engaging
  5. Creates feelings of Friendliness and Liking
  6. Increases the sense of a Personalized Experience
These findings precisely describe the attributes of what we were looking for. To finalize our concept, we turned to a human interface specialist to help us further study the car wash customer and design a specific interface for this market. His strong recommendation became our final product:

“Use a pretty Mom with a wonderful smile and a cute little girl sitting next to her. Have both of them in a car and allow ‘Mom’ to converse with the customer through her rolled down window.”

Our customer satisfaction polls show that customers love the concept. One person described the interaction as “…Being as if I had pulled up beside my neighbor to have a quick chat”.  According to our human interface specialist, part of this close association is from having Mom positioned to mirror the customer sitting in their car, thus helping to establish rapport.

From a marketing perspective, Mom is a 24 hour a day sales dynamo. She can be programmed to promote and accept all of Intelio’s gift card, loyalty card, fleet card, and community code programs. She has the ability to up-sell ala? carte wash services such as Rain-X and Hub Scrub as well as recommend and explain the top wash package. She can even be programmed to promote a rainy day refund offer.

Mom performs these services without fail, 24 hours a day, every day, and always does so with a warm and friendly smile.

Although ActiVA is a sophisticated kiosk, it is also one of the easiest to service entry systems in the carwash market. The design is modular, allowing for quick replacement of part. The system comes with one year of Silver Service including 6-day x 12 hour Help Desk support. Upon receipt of an error code, Intelio can remotely access the system, fix and restart operations, and dispatch any replacement parts for your next pay arrival. We can fix most problems before they impact your customers!
